The Benefits of Drip Irrigation

Drip irrigation is the slow application of water directly to the root zone of the plant, resulting in less water lost to evaporation in the sun and wind. The root zone is maintained at the ideal moisture level combining the proper balance of water and air. All of these factors promote deeper penetration of the roots, more foliage growth and abundant flower and fruit production!

Water Efficiency:

Drip irrigation applies water only where it is needed, with less runoff and evaporation. Studies on drip irrigation systems are show results of up to 60% more efficiency over sprinkler systems. ~ University of Rhode Island

Conserves
Earth's Resources:

Population is on the rise making it critically important to evaluate how each individual uses our earth’s precious resources, especially life giving water. In the heat of summer often times over half of the water used by a household goes to irrigation of the landscape. Everyone would like to have a beautiful garden. We encourage you to make educated decisions about how they are maintained. For example, conventional sprinkler heads measure water applied in GPM, or Gallons Per Minute. Drip emitters and micro sprinklers measure water applied in GPH, or Gallons Per Hour. Drip irrigation uses less water, and promotes lush plant growth: both offering our planet a beautiful and abundant future.

Reduced
Pest & Weed Growth:

Watering only the roots of plants with drip irrigation reduces the amount of "pests" found on the plant. Wet foliage allows bugs and fungal pathogens like powdery mildew to thrive. Drip irrigation prevents this because it only waters the roots keeping the foliage dry and healthy. Directly watering the roots also inhibits germination of weeds because the area between plants is not wet, like with a sprinkler system.

Root Zone:

One of the most important aspects of installing a new drip irrigation system is that a totally new and more favorable environment in the root zone is created, which maintains a relatively constant soil moisture level. This creates stress free plants that actively grow and resist disease.

Long Life:

All DIG products are designed to withstand the harshest conditions in both home and commercial installations. They are manufactured from high quality, durable plastics and contain added quantities of the compound Carbon Black, making them resistant to the damaging effects of ultraviolet rays.

Versatility:

Low volume irrigation systems are designed for placement in both new and existing landscapes. They are also ideal for installation on difficult terrain such as on slopes, in oddly shaped areas, and sites with high winds.

Cost Savings:

Investing in a low volume irrigation system can save money by significantly lowering water use in the garden, in turn lowering water utility bills.

Ease of Installation:

Installation is a very simple process, no special tools or glue are needed. The only tools required to install an entire system are scissors and a tubing punch.
